MAPFRE ASPAR TEAM OFFICIALLY PRESENTED IN VALENCIA
Julián Simón and Mike Di Meglio take their bow alongside new RSV machina ahead of inaugural Moto2 title challenge

At 7pm last night the Príncipe Felipe Science Museum in Valencia played host to the official presentation of the Aspar Team for 2010, the 30th anniversary season of the Spanish team. For Jorge Martínez ‘Aspar’ it was not just a team presentation but the culmination of a dream, as he prepares to launch a triple assault on the World Championship, with riders in every category. This dream would remain an impossible one if it weren’t for the close and continued collaboration of the team’s intermediate category sponsor Mapfre.

Following a gala to celebrate the anniversary of Jorge Martínez ‘Aspar’ and his racing project masters of ceremony Ainhoa Arbizu and Valentín Requena moved on to the official presentation of the Mapfre Aspar Team, that will contest the inaugural season of the Moto2 World Championship. The bright red RSV machine that Julián Simón and Mike Di Meglio will attempt to take the title with was unveiled before Mapfre representative Javier Oliveros and Jorge Martínez ‘Aspar’ joined the riders on stage.

Javier Oliveros: “It has been exciting to share the 30th anniversary of Jorge Martínez ‘Aspar’ in World Championship racing alongside his friends and fans. It is a source of great pride for MAPFRE to have the opportunity to sponsor the only team to have representation in all three categories in 2010, including MotoGP.”

Jorge Martínez ‘Aspar’: “Seeing such a large, competitive and tight team is in many ways the tip of the iceberg of what we have achieved over the last thirty years - three decades of non-stop growth. I hope that we are battling to retain the title in 125, I’d also like to be fighting to win it Moto2, even though it is a new category, and in MotoGP it would be great if we could finish in the top ten at the end of the year. Either way, we are very excited by this wonderful project that we are carrying forward.”

Julián Simón: “The presentation has been a real success and I think it was really important that it took place here in Valencia, since this is the team’s hometown, and the Príncipe Felipe Museum is a spectacular venue. It is always positive to hold an event like this so that other people get to enjoy the new bikes as much as we do! As far as I am concerned this season I am moving up to Moto2, a completely new category, and so far I am adapting well. I think it could be another fabulous season for us.”

Mike Di Meglio: “I am really happy to be continuing with the Aspar Team. The Moto2 bikes were an unknown quantity but personally I feel more familiarised with it every time I ride it and I’m enjoying it. Hopefully the season develops well – luckily we have learnt from the mistakes we made last year and we’re ready for anything.”
